Image for Historic Preservation

The Historic Preservation Task Force works with area organizations to take a proactive approach to preservation efforts and public education on the benefits of historic preservation. They identify buildings in need of preservation and provide assessments of these historic properties to help owners understand current conditions of buildings and the updates necessary to make the structure compliant with current codes, while maintaining its historic integrity. Previous assessment & feasibility studies include: the Mutual Musicians Foundation, The President Hotel, Grand Avenue Temple, the Firestone Building, the Denver Schoolhouse and Chicago @ Alton.

  • Veiled Significance

The Veiled Significance List was assembled by AIA Kansas City’s Historic Preservation Committee as a method to generate a list that creates greater public awareness of buildings that are symbolic of KC’s Architectural Heritage – to “tell the story” of buildings not widely recognized in order to promote their preservation.
